Student who follows double bachelor's degree

Hugo

Dear SHARE member,

My name is Hugo, I’m 20 years old and currently doing my second year of the bachelor Health Policy and Management at ESHPM. Besides following a bachelor at ESHPM I’m following a bachelor at ESE too, I follow the bachelor in economics. This year I fulfill the task of being the chairman of the Short Trip committee, where we will arrange a wonderful weekend with lots of activities and pleasure. In addition to studying a lot of my time, I like to hang out with friends, go clubbing and playing sports every once in a while.

During my first year of studying at ESHPM, I concluded that Health Policy and Management perhaps wasn’t the best choice I’ve ever made, so I started to look around for some more adventure or something more challenging, whatever you may call it. After all, I came with the plan to do a double Bachelor, wasn’t really sure I would succeed but you don’t know if you don’t try. I didn’t stop my bachelor at ESHPM, for a couple of reasons. One of them is the amazing group of friends I’ve found here and on the other hand the extremely complicated branch that Healthcare is which drew my attention in the first place and made me choose for Health Policy and Management. As soon as I started my second bachelor I started to appreciate Health Policy and Management more than I had done before. Because the way of teaching is 180 degrees different from what they do at ESE. Neither of them is better than the other, but the variety has learned me to appreciate both.

Doing a double bachelor at two different faculties causes some hurdles to overcome, one of them is I cannot attend each lecture or tutorial since I don’t have the ability to be at two places at the same time (which would be nice, to be honest). Moreover, it is quite challenging to earn 120 ECTS in one year instead of 60, for now, everything is going excellent, but the thought is quite horrifying. Not forgetting exam weeks, I have got the luck that ESE and ESHPM do use a different length for each period, so they do not interfere with each other. Nevertheless, I will have exam weeks double the length of someone doing one bachelor. If you consider doing a double bachelor make sure you have everything clear for yourself, it makes it a lot easier and spares you a lot of stress.

This being said I want to conclude the elaboration of my life at the moment. If there is ever a moment in your life whether it’s sad or not my advice is to think; What would Martien Meiland have said now; it will do wonders.

Bye bye
