Hi students!
I really enjoy my role as an ESHPM ambassador. It’s fun and valuable to guide prospective students in their study choices. At various events, ranging from the university itself to high schools across the country, as an ambassador, I provide information sessions and convey my enthusiasm for the program.
During open days, the main focus is on answering questions from prospective students and/or their parents. Sometimes, you also give a presentation in which you share your experiences about the program and the city of Rotterdam. It’s a busy but also very enjoyable day.
With a ‘meeloopdag’ or orientation day, high school students can truly experience what it’s like to study Health Sciences in Rotterdam. We start the day with an introduction to the program. Then, we join a lecture that first-year bachelor students are attending at that moment. Afterward, we simulate a tutorial group meeting, where we discuss an extensive case study on a current topic, such as the concentration of pediatric heart surgery. This way, students can check whether the material appeals to them.
During school visits, the approach is less in-depth, as these students are often younger. As an ambassador, you first give a general presentation about the program, the way the education is provided and admission requirements. You end the school visit with a campus tour, showing the students all the fun and useful spots around the university.
The work as an ambassador is very diverse. From conducting workshops and presentations to assisting with diploma ceremonies and symposiums. My personal highlights are definitely the open days; it’s always a lively day where I engage with many people and try to inspire them about our program. Also, assisting with the bachelor’s degree ceremony was a great experience; it was beautifully organized and lovely to see all the graduates.
What makes ambassadorship even more enjoyable is the group of students you work with. We all come from different years of the bachelor’s and master’s programs, allowing you to meet new people. Of course, there are also enjoyable moments associated with ambassadorship, such as the welcome drink at the beginning of the year.
Being an ambassador is an experience that not only enriches my studies but also expands my social circle.
With love,
Sabine
