Combining SHARE with another association

Storm

Hello!

My name is Storm and I’m in my second year of the bachelor Gezondheidwetenschappen at ESHPM. During my studies, I have become a member of both F.A. SHARE and SKADI, the rowing association of Rotterdam. Combining participating in activities in both associations can be a bit of a challenge for me sometimes. On the one hand, F.A. SHARE as the faculty association of ESHPM, provides a close-knit community of like-minded students and it is a different way to develop myself and my academic interests. On the other hand, SKADI as a rowing association, offers a physical outlet and I have a lot of fun with my team. Finding the balance between these two associations can sometimes be a challenge and planning is a bit chaotic. This means sometimes I have to cancel rowing training for a SHARE event, or the other way around. But it also provides a unique opportunity to develop new friendships and experiences.

With love,

Storm

Roos

Hi everyone!

My name is Roos and I am currently doing the Health Economics Policy and Law Master. During the final year of my studies, I wanted to connect more with all the fun associations here at the university. So, I became a member of SHARE and went to the opening drink at the beginning of the year. At the same time, I applied to become a volunteer at Café In de Smitse as a bartender. SHARE and the Smitse are similar in a way; they both have a tight group of people who really enjoy taking part in the events and contributing to the association. Although it felt a bit daunting at first to be new in groups that are so tight-knit, I quickly discovered that it does not take long before you become a part of that group and just as enthusiastic — it only takes going to one event!

What made my time as a member of SHARE even more memorable is that I joined one of the committees, in my case, the committee organizing the study trip. As a group of six, we came together every week for around an hour to plan a part of the trip. This was very manageable timewise, and easy to combine with my studies and my time at the Smitse as most of it all takes place on the campus. Working on the committee was incredibly rewarding; not only did we create an amazing experience for our fellow students, but we also formed a close bond within our group.

During the year we even had some crossovers, such as the beer tasting organized by SHARE at Café In de Smitse. This was a really fun afternoon where I could share my enjoyment of bartending with my friends at SHARE, blending my roles and making the experience even more special. Overall, joining the associations made my year and I am sure I made friends who will continue to be in my life even after finishing my studies.

With love,

Roos
